Stefaan C. De Smedt教授，比利时皇家医学院院士，比利时根特大学（Ghent University）药学系系主任，根特大学纳米中心主任。比利时Flemish科学研究基金(FWO-Belgium) “药剂学和蛋白化学”评审委员会委员；美国—以色列双边科学研究基金评审委员会委员；芬兰科学院和法国国家科研署（the Agence Nationale de la Recherch, France）专家委员会委员。2015年至今，担任Journal of Controlled Release编辑。2016年，受聘上海交通大学“客座教授”。

De Smedt教授的主要研究领域为适用于药物和诊断试剂体内输送的新型微纳米材料。研究涵盖了药物输送、生物物理学、材料科学和新型光学成像技术多个方面。已发表了约280篇论文文章包括Nature Materials, Nature Drug Discovery Reviews, Chemical Reviews, Chemical Society Reviews, The Journal of the American Chemical Society, Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, Small, Biomaterials, Soft Matter, ACS Nano, Nano Today, Nucleic Acid Research, Molecular Therapy, Biophysical Journal, Macromolecules, Biomacromolecules, ournal of Controlled Release, Pharmaceutical Research, Molecular Pharmaceutics, Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews, Gene Therapy, Biochemical Journal and the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care。文章的总引用次数超过10500次，Web of Science高引因子（High Impact Factor 53）。
