Doctorate Program
Newstime:2016-10-13

Students enrolled in our Ph.D. program are expected to train themselves to independent researchers capable to take leadership positions in a research environment in academia, industry as well as research hospitals. For thesis research, a successful Ph.D. candidate should develop an innovative and impacting research project alone or under the help of his/her degree advisor, normally a full professor. The time needed for completion course study and thesis research for a Ph.D. student varies substantially with each research project. The average length of Ph.D. study is about four years. Our students graduated with a Ph.D. degree are highly demanded by academic and industrial research institutions domestic and international.

PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Drug Discovery for International Students (PSDD):

Welcome to PSDD program preparing innovative expert leaders in the pharmaceutical sciences and drug discovery

The Pharmaceutical Sciences and drug discovery (PSDD) PhD Program at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), School of Pharmacy focuses on how to apply a broad range of knowledge in pharmaceutical sciences to develop safer and more effective drugs to help patients worldwide. Our PhD students will receive solid training in the pharmaceutical-related basic sciences, as well as in the real drug discovery processes to develop into independent and creative problem-solvers in pharmaceutical sciences. This multidisciplinary graduate program focuses on current pharmaceutical research and drug development to nurture the next generation of pharmaceutical scientists.

About PSDD

Founded in February 2000, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Pharmacy is one of the youngest pharmacy schools in China. SJTU School of Pharmacy is ranked among the top pharmacy schools in China for its wide spectrum of academic studies and strong faculty team. Its graduate department offers highly reputed MS, and Ph.D. programs in each area of pharmaceutical sciences and medicinal chemistry, especially in the emerging fields of today's pharmaceutical technologies. More than half of the professors in the school had previous experiences teaching at universities or studying in pharmaceutical industry in North America.

Based on the English-teaching capability of the faculties, the pharmacy school has newly established a graduate program for international students taught in English. A graduate student who enrolled in the program may start his/her study in selected discipline immediately without receiving Chinese-language courses. International students are encouraged and expected to enjoy their learning of Chinese language and culture during the course study and thesis research.

Research Directions

The PSDD program consists research projects in multiple areas of pharmaceutical sciences including Pharmacology, Medicinal chemistry, Pharmaceutical biotechnology, Pharmaceutical analysis and Pharmaceutics. Students are encouraged to take courses and experimental trainings cross-disciplinary fields.
